About Me
|
I am a psychotherapist and counsellor with over 10 years of clinical experience, working with individuals, couples, and practitioners in Exeter, Bristol, and online. My approach is warm, professional, and grounded in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic thinking, with the flexibility to draw on other models in response to each person's needs.
I founded Misma Counselling & Psychotherapy in 2017 to offer a reflective, non-judgemental space where individuals and couples can begin to make sense of their inner and relational worlds. I am particularly interested in how past experiences, often outside of awareness, shape present patterns, relationships, and emotional life. My work is informed not only by clinical training and ongoing professional development, but also by wider life experience and a background in business and leadership - bringing a grounded, thoughtful perspective alongside psychological depth. |

Understanding Anger After TraumaAnger can be a natural, and times, necessary response to trauma - serving as a way of coping and protecting oneself. However, when it becomes persistent, overwhelming, or disconnected from its origins, it can begin to impact both wellbeing and relationships. Recognising and understanding the role of anger is often the first step in working with it. In this piece, I explore how anger following trauma can be understood and approach within a therapeutic context. .

Why We Self-sabotageWe all have goals we want to achieve, yet sometimes we get in our own way. Self-sabotage can range from subtle avoidance to harmful behaviours like addiction or staying in unhealthy relationships. It’s one of the most puzzling human behaviours — knowing something will hurt us, yet doing it anyway. Understanding the deeper reasons behind self-sabotage is the first step toward breaking the cycle.

Q & A
What is Psychodynamic Therapy?
|
Psychodynamic therapy is a therapeutic approach that looks beyond surface symptoms to explore the deeper roots of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. it focuses on how past experiences- including those outside of your conscious awareness- shape the way you experience the present.
By bringing these patterns into awareness, therapy can help you understand yourself more fully and create space for lasting change. |

How Long Will Therapy Take?
The length of therapy varies from person to person. Some people benefit from short-term work focused on specific issues, while others choose longer-term therapy to explore deeper patterns and ongoing personal growth. We will regularly review your progress together so you can decide what feels right for you.
Is Therapy Right for Me?
Therapy can be helpful if you’re facing a particular challenge, feeling stuck, or simply wanting to understand yourself better. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit — many people use therapy as a space for reflection, personal growth, and emotional support. If you’re unsure, we can discuss your needs during an initial consultation.
